Meet Dr. David J. Parks
Dr. Parks has been in private practice since 1999 when he opened this office in Beverly Hills. He specializes in treating diseases that affect the retina and vitreous, the gel-like tissue within the eye. In addition to decades of experience, Dr. Parks holds several distinctions. He has:
- Been a scientific investigator in clinical trials
- Published the findings of clinical ophthalmology and laboratory research in various scientific journals
- Lectured both nationally and internationally to share this research with industry leaders
- Completed a fellowship in ocular immunology and uveitis at the National Eye Institute
- Completed a second fellowship at the White Memorial Medical Center in Los Angeles
Areas of Focus
Macular Degeneration
The macula is the central portion of the retina, the light-sensitive tissue at the back of the eye that helps our brain form images. When this area of the eye becomes damaged, the vision directly in front of you may appear dark or distorted. The effects of this primarily age-related condition can be managed with laser therapies and other methods.
Diabetic Retinopathy
Type 2 diabetes affects blood vessels throughout the body, including the retinas. As these blood vessels become damaged, new, abnormal blood vessels grow which are particularly delicate and prone to rupture. In its earliest stages patients may not experience any symptoms, but as the condition develops, they may have blurred vision or dark, floating spots or streaks.
Retinal Detachment
The symptoms of diabetic detachment can become noticeable and worsen quickly. Signs include blurred sight and a sudden increase in flashes and floaters.
